A registered process server attempts in-hand personal service on the named defendant at the address you provide, then completes a court-admissible affidavit you can file. The clock for substituted service starts here: courts expect documented diligent attempts at different times of day before any fallback method is appropriate. Each attempt is logged with GPS coordinates, a timestamped photo of the address, and a written narrative captured in the field. If the defendant is served on attempt one, the signed affidavit lands in your portal the next business day. If not, the server cycles through morning, evening, and weekend windows automatically — no extra cost, no per-attempt upcharge. If personal service fails after diligent attempts, we transition the case to sub-service or posting at your direction, and the diligence already on file supports the substituted method under CCP §415.20.

How many attempts does Servd make before switching to sub-service?

Up to five diligent attempts at different times of day across different days. Courts treat three documented attempts as the floor for "due diligence" before sub-service is reasonable; we go further because the marginal cost of a successful personal serve beats every fallback.

What is the difference between Standard and Rush service?

Standard runs the attempts over 3-5 business days. Rush compresses the same workflow into 24-48 hours with priority routing. Expedited is same-day for cases that cannot wait.

Do I pay extra if the first attempt fails?

No. The flat $99 covers up to five attempts. You only pay more if you escalate to Rush or Expedited, add skip trace, or use a separate add-on.

When do I get the affidavit?

For successful personal service, the signed affidavit is in your portal the next business day. For unsuccessful service, you receive a declaration of due diligence after the attempt window closes.

Can I add a skip trace if the address turns out to be wrong?

Yes. If the first attempt confirms the defendant has moved, add a skip trace ($80) and we re-route the discovered address to the field server inside the same case at no extra service fee.
